Abstract :
Purpoe To determine whether vaohibin, an antiangiogenic factor produced by vacular endothelial cell, i expreed in the choroidal neovacular (CNV) membrane obtained from human eye with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or polypoidal choroidal vaculopathy (PCV). Deign Retropective, interventional cae erie. Method The medical chart of 21 eye of 21 patient with AMD or PCV who underwent urgical removal of the CNV membrane were reviewed. The removed tiue were immunotained for von Willebrand Factor (vWF), vacular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and vaohibin. The level of the meenger ribonucleic acid of VEGF, VEGFR2, and vaohibin were determined by real-time revere-trancriptae polymerae chain reaction (RT-PCR) from the CNV membrane excied from nine AMD and nine PCV patient. Reult The patient were divided into three group; four patient were placed in the mot active group (Group H), 13 in the le active group (Group E), and four in the nonactive group (Group ). Immunohitochemitry howed that vaohibin, vWF, and VEGF were expreed in the vacular endothelial cell in the CNV membrane and in the polypoidal veel. RT-PCR howed that there wa a trong correlation between the level of expreion of VEGFR2 and vaohibin (P = .0002). Eye with a lower vaohibin-to-VEGF ratio tended to have larger ubretinal hemorrhage or vitreou hemorrhage, wherea eye with higher vaohibin-to-VEGF ratio had ubretinal fibroilike leion. tatitical analyi of the vaohibin-to-VEGF ratio among the three group wa ignificant (P = .0209). Concluion Vaohibin i expreed in human CNV membrane. Our reult indicate that the vaohibin-to-VEGF ratio may be related with the activity of the CNV.
