Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the influence of cataract urgery on cognitive function and depreive mental tatu of elderly patient. Deign Propective, interventional cae erie. Method The 25-Item National Eye Intitute Viual Functioning Quetionnaire (NEI VFQ-25), Mini-Mental tate Examination (MME), and Beck Depreion Inventory (BDI) are the meaure deigned to ae viion-related quality of life (QOL), cognitive impairment, and depreive mental tatu, repectively. Thee tet were performed before and two month after urgery in 102 patient undergoing phacoemulification and intraocular len implantation for bilateral cataract. Reult The change in bet-corrected viual acuity by urgery ignificantly correlated with the change in NEI VFQ-25 core (Pearon correlation, r = −0.310; P = .031). The change in NEI VFQ-25 core by urgery ignificantly correlated with the change in MME core (r = 0.306; P = .035) and the change in BDI core (r = −0.414; P < .001). The change in MME core howed ignificant correlation with the change in BDI core (r = −0.434; P < .001). Concluion Viion-related QOL, cognitive impairment, and depreive mental tatu are all trongly related with each other. Cataract urgery ignificantly improved viion-related QOL in elderly patient, and cognitive impairment and depreive mental tatu alo improved in parallel with improvement in viion-related QOL.
