Abstract
Purpoe
To tudy the prevalence and rik factor of intraocular preure (IOP) elevation and refractory IOP elevation after a ingle 4 mg intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA) injection in a Chinee population.
Deign
Retropective, obervational cae erie.
Method
Retropective chart review of all the patient who received an IVTA injection at one medical center from January 2003 through June 2005. A potoperative IOP increae of more than 6 mm Hg wa defined a an IOP elevation. Potoperative IOP elevation that could not be controlled by glaucoma medication wa defined a refractory IOP elevation.
Reult
ixty-four (43.5%) of the 147 enrolled patient experienced IOP elevation. Male had a higher rik of IOP elevation, with an odd ratio (OR) of 3.17 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.38 to 7.27; P = .006), after adjuting for age, glaucoma hitory, and diagnoi of retinal dieae. Patient 55 year of age and younger had a larger magnitude of IOP elevation than thoe older than 55 year (11.2 ± 10.1 mm Hg v 7.3 ± 7.7 mm Hg; P = .020). Ten patient (6.8%) had refractory IOP elevation, and thoe 55 year of age or younger had a higher rik of refractory IOP elevation compared with thoe older than 55 year, with an OR of 8.16 (95% CI, 1.67 to 39.81; P = .009), after adjuting for preoperative IOP and diagnoi of retinal dieae.
Concluion
Elevated IOP after IVTA injection i common in thi Chinee population. Male patient have a higher rik of IOP elevation. Younger patient hould be monitored carefully after IVTA injection becaue they exhibit a greater magnitude of IOP elevation and have an increaed chance of developing refractory IOP elevation.
