Intraocular Preure, Central Corneal Thickne, and Prevalence of Open-Angle Glaucoma: The Lo Angele Latino Eye tudy Original Reearch Article

Purpoe To examine the relationhip between the prevalence of open-angle glaucoma (OAG) and intraocular preure (IOP) and the impact of central corneal thickne (CCT) on thi relationhip. Deign Population-baed cro-ectional tudy. Method The tudy cohort conited of 5,970 participant from the Lo Angele Latino Eye tudy (LALE) with no hitory of glaucoma treatment and with complete ophthalmic examination data. The relationhip between the prevalence of OAG and IOP wa contrated acro peron with CCT deignated a thin, normal, or thick. Reult Prevalence of OAG wa exponentially related to IOP. When tratified by CCT, peron with thin CCT had a ignificantly higher prevalence of OAG than did thoe with normal or thick CCT at all level of IOP. Adjuting each IOP individually for CCT did not impact ignificantly the relationhip between the prevalence of OAG and IOP. Concluion Thee finding ugget that adjuting for the impact of CCT on IOP by correction algorithm i not neceary in a population baed aement of glaucoma prevalence; CCT, however, i an important independent rik factor for the prevalence of OAG.
