Abstract :
Purpoe
To compare the characteritic of cytomegaloviru (CMV)-poitive and negative eye with preumed Poner-chloman yndrome (P) and Fuch heterochromic iridocycliti (FHI).
Deign
Retropective interventional cae erie.
Method
One hundred and three eye of 102 patient with preumed P or FHI, een at the ingapore National Eye Centre, underwent aqueou analyi for CMV by polymerae chain reaction (PCR). Their record were reviewed for clinical feature and human immunodeficiency viru (HIV) tatu of the CMV-poitive patient. The main outcome meaure were age, gender, maximum intraocular preure, endothelial cell count, endothelial change, PCR reult, and preence of uveitic cataract and/or glaucoma.
Reult
ixty-even eye with preumed P were tapped, of which 35 (52.2%) were CMV-poitive. There were 36 eye of 35 patient with preumed FHI, of which 15 (41.7%) were CMV-poitive. All the CMV-poitive patient were HIV negative. Nodular endothelial leion were een in 18 eye (36.0%) with CMV infection, and reticulate depoit were een in all the preumed FHI eye. CMV-poitive and CMV-negative P eye were clinically imilar. Older age at diagnoi, male gender, and nodular endothelial leion were ignificantly aociated with CMV infection in preumed FHI eye (age: odd ratio [OR], 1.1; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.0 to 1.2; P = .01; male gender: OR, 9.4; 95% CI, 1.0 to 88.6; P = .049; nodular endothelial leion: OR, 13.9; 95% CI, 1.5 to 132.7; P = .02).
Concluion
There are no clinically detectable difference between CMV-poitive and negative preumed P eye. CMV-poitive preumed FHI patient are more likely to be male, older at diagnoi or have nodular endothelial leion.
