Abstract :
Purpoe
To acertain the frequency of uveiti in Veteran Affair (VA) patient in the Pacific Northwet and to compare dieae rate with thoe in previouly publihed epidemiologic tudie.
Deign
Cro-ectional, population baed-tudy.
Method
The medical record of 152,267 patient een at ix VA Medical Center in Oregon and Wahington during fical year 2004 were earched for uveiti-related Internation Claification of Dieae 9th edition code. Cae were reviewed and claified anatomically, by aociated ytemic dieae, and a incident or prevalent. Only definite cae were ued for dieae rate calculation.
Reult
Thi tudy found a crude incidence of 25.6 cae/100,000 peron-year and a crude prevalence of 69 cae/100,000 peron. The mot common anatomic location for uveiti wa anterior. Approximately half of cae were idiopathic, with human leukocyte antigen-B27–related dieae being the mot common identified caue. There wa no tatitical evidence of increaed or decreaed incidence with age, although uveiti eemed to be more prevalent in the younger age group.
Concluion
Our data are conitent with thoe of mot publihed population-baed tudie on the epidemiologic feature of uveiti, but we detected ignificantly lower incidence and prevalence than thoe reported in a recently publihed tudy from Kaier Permanente. The ignificance of and poible explanation for the difference between our data and that publihed by the Kaier group are dicued.
