Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine the prevalence of dry eye dieae and contact len (CL) ue among Japanee private high chool tudent.
Deign
Cro-ectional prevalence urvey.
Method
We carried out a cro-ectional urvey in 3,433 Japanee high chool tudent who completed quetionnaire deigned to acertain a prior diagnoi of dry eye dieae and current ymptom of dry eye dieae, a well a information on CL ue and type of CL. We ued logitic regreion analyi to examine the aociation between dry eye dieae and CL ue.
Reult
Of the 3,443 high chool tudent, 3,433 (100%) completed the quetionnaire. A total of 2,848 boy and 585 girl joined and the age range wa from 15 to 18 year. Clinically diagnoed dry eye dieae wa preent in 123 boy (4.3%) and 47 girl (8.0%). evere ymptom of dry eye dieae were oberved in 599 ubject in boy (21.0%) and 143 in girl (24.4%). oft contact len (CL) and hard contact len (HCL) ue wa 36.1% and 1.7%, repectively.
Concluion
Dry eye dieae leading to a clinical diagnoi or evere ymptom i prevalent in the tudied Japanee private high chool tudent. The condition i more prevalent among female ubject and CL wearer. Relevant meaure directed againt thee rik could provide a poitive impact on public health and quality of life of high chool tudent.
