Virilization in a postmenopausal woman as a result of hilus cell hyperplasia associated with a simple ovarian cyst, ,

A 68-year-old woman who had virilization was found to have an androgen-secreting simple ovarian cyst at laparotomy. Histologic examination demonstrated hilus cell hyperplasia in the ovarian hilus and cyst wall. In the differential diagnosis of postmenopausal virilization, hilus cell hyperplasia, although rare, should be considered. (Am J Obstet Gynecol 1997;176:719-20.)
