Abstract :
Professor Li Shaoming, researcher at the Sichuan Institute for Nationalities
Research, specially appointed advisor and expert to the State Council, and
Sichuan’s most honoured and revered ethnologist, died on 20 August 2009 in
Chengdu. Professor Li’s experience of the full, tortuous course of development
of ethnological and anthropological research in the PRC can serve as a microcosm
of the uneven history of Chinese ethnology since 1949.
