Abstract :
The style length is considerably greater in tetraploids compared to diploids (approximately 1.3 fold). When pollen volumes were compared tetraploids volume was greater (3.4 fold) than diploids. There is a significant positive linear correlation between the pollen volume and style length in both diploids and polyploids. The cross combinations set seed when shorter styled parent was used as a female parent or when a male parent with bigger pollen grains was used in the interspecific hybridization in Fuchsia. Notwithstanding these limitations, unreduced gametes produced in some of the parental species through sexual polyploidization contributed to the production of seed set in certain cross combinations.
