Abstract :
ABSTARCT: The purpose of the present research was to determine the important indices in talent identification for swimming based on a survey among elite women’s swimming coaches. The present research is descriptive. The population of the research consists of all the elite women’s swimming coaches of the country who had participated in 2008 Iranian Olympiad and 23 coaches formed the sample of the present research. Data were analyzed in the form of tables and descriptive diagrams. The results of statistical analysis showed that all the coaches agree with a talent identification system for selecting talented swimmers. The proper age for beginning talent identification for swimming was considered 5-10 years by 82.60% of the coaches, 10-12 years by 13.04% of the coaches, and 12-14 years by 4.34% of the coaches. Regarding the method for identification and selection of talented individuals, 43.4% advocated the use of experimental method, 30.43% the observation method, and 26.08 the scientific method as their priority. Talent identification areas were prioritized based on the views of the coaches: (1) anthropometric, (2) skill, (3) psychomotor, (4) psychological.
