Rajaz (Harague) is one of the poefic forms in Arabic literature, which has been in practice since the beginning of Arabic literature. On this research rajaz is discussed from, First, a philological, and then a literary point of view, and its literary significance and traditional meters are explained. Although rajaz was used for the first time in the pre-Islamic poetry, at the beginning it was of but little importance and function. After the advent of Islamic and the emergence of the poets practising this form of poetrs, however, rajaz gained more importance and as a poetic form it underwent a great change. This article is an attempt to discuss the most famous rajaz poets, the literary cliavacteristics of this genre, and the various subjects explored in this kind of poetry. Moreover, it endeavours to discuss the most important rajaz poems according to their subjects.
