Abstract :
To study the effect of salinity stress on safflower growth in different vegetative growth stages and selection of salinity tolerant genotypes, three separate experiments was carried out in different conditions (laboratory, greenhouse and farm). In the laboratory experiment ten safflower genotypes including (Kashan, 14 Isfahan, 28 Isfahan, Isfahan, Golsefid, 7-138, Shiraz, 2811, 22-191 and Il-3) were evaluated in four levels of salinity treatment (distilled water as control, 5, 10, and 15 ds m-1) using different NaCl concentrations. In greenhouse and farm experiments, ten safflower genotypes were evaluated in two conditions, saline and normal soil. Results showed that salt stress had a significant influence on the germination rate, radicle length, dry weight, fresh weight and shoot length in laboratory conditions, Number of leaf, shoot length, fresh weight and dry weight also affected significantly by salinity in greenhouse condition. The traits affected by salinity in farm condition were plant height, number of head per plant, number of seed per head, 1000-seed weight and grain yield. Based on quantitative indices of stress tolerance (SSI, TOL, GMP and STI) and measured growth characteristics, four genotypes of 7-138, 22-191, Golsefid and Shiraz were identified as the most tolerant genotypes to salinity and had maximum yield.
