Comparison of morphological, physiological and yield of local and improved cultivars of cotton in Yazd province

To comparison of morphological, physiological and yield of improved and local cultivars of cotton, an experiment was conducted using randomized complete block design with three replications at Islamic Azad University, Maybod Branch, Yazd in 2010 cropping season. Experimental treatments included three improved cultivars (Mehr, Varamin, Sindoz) and local cultivar as control. Different traits including plant height, Number of leaves, Number of boll, Number of sympodial, different harvest yield and physiological characteristics (Leaf area index and Crop growth rate) were measured. Results showed the significant difference between imoroved cultivars and local cultivar in all of characteristics except for leaf area index. Sindoz cultivar had highest number of boll, number of sympodial, crop growth rate and low of plant height that thereby produced highest yield (4162 kg/ha).
