  • Abstract
Thirty lentil (Lens Culinaris Medik.) genotypes grown in the Chenaran (Khorasan Razavi Province) of Iran have been analyzed to determine and compare their nutritional and compositional properties. Different characteristics including quantitative (flowering period, days to maturity, plant height, pod number , yield) and qualitative (crude protein, total lipid, total carbohydrates, crude fiber, ash content) contents were determined. Seed yield ranged from 1200 kg ha-1to 2800 kg ha -1 kg and the highest seed yield was obtained from the genotype MLC16. Lentils contained an average of 28.3% protein, 2.14% total lipid, 55.34% total carbohydrate, 8.5% fiber and 5.37% ash. The data show that in terms of both quality and quantity, all thirty lentil genotypes can serve as a significant source of essential amino acids and essential fatty acids to meet the demand of population of Iran.
