  • Abstract
    This study was conducted in Saidu group of teaching hospitals and includes fifty (50) cases of colonic injury. Out of this 50 cases 42 were penetrating colonic injuries and 8 were blunt abdominal trauma causing colonic injury. This study extended over a period of 2 years and 3 month Le from Jan 2000 to Mar 2002. All the 50 patient after resuscitation were shifted to the operation theatre and laparatomy was performed through a midline incision. Irrespective of the risk factors primary closure was performed in 34 cases and resection and end to end anastomosis was done in 16 cases. Out of these 50 cases 37 cases were associated with other abdominal visceral injury. The male to female ratio was 4:1 and the mean average age was 21 year. Two patient died after surgery (mortality rate 4%). Complication occurred in 10 cases (morbidity 20%); one developed anastamotic leak for which proximal colostomy was performed
