Abstract
Bronchial asthma is a serious global health problem. People of all ages in countries throughout the world are affected by this chronic airway disease, that, when uncontrolled, can place severe limits on daily life and is sometimes fatal. The prevalence of asthma is increasing in most countries. Asthma is a significant burden, not only in terms of health care costs but also of lost productivity and reduced participation in family and social life. It is very important that asthmatic patient should take therapy correctly. Asthma treatment focuses on controlling the disease. International specialists have drawn up consensus guidelines for asthma treatment over the last ten years which is renewed in 2006. One of the most frustrating aspects of providing health care in bronchial asthma is that one of non-adherence to medical recommendations and prescribed regimens. Society has better medical treatment options now than any time in history, yet adherence to treatment general remains at a median rate of approximately 50%. The consequences of poor adherence are significant and numerous. A doctor can impact many aspects of adherence. A better compliance to therapy is associated with better asthma outcomes - symptoms, improvement of lung function, reduced exacerbations, reduced emergency hospital utilization and better quality of life.
