Effect of Cultivars and Nitrogen on Growth and Morphological Traits of Barley in Isfahan Region

ABSTRACT: In order to study the effect of cultivars and nitrogen on growth and morphological traits of barley, an experiment was conducted in 2010-2011 in a research farm of farming building of Islamic Azad University Khorasgan (Isfahan) Branch located in Khatun abad village (latitude 32o /40ʹ N and Longitude 51o /48ʹ E). A split plot layout within randomized complete block design with 4 replications was used. Main plot were different level of nitrogen fertilizer (0, 50,100 and 150 kg ha-1) from urea source, and sub plot were different cultivars (Nosrat, Reyhan03 and Binam). Condition represented the effect of nitrogen was significant on plant height, ear length, flag leaf length, lodging percentage and seed yield.150 kg N ha-1 fertilizer treatment resulted the maximum of all mentioned factors except lodging percentage, but has no significant differences with 100 kg N ha-1. Effect of cultivar was significant on peduncle length, ear length, lodging percentage and seed yield. The maximum of seed yield related to Nosrat cultivar. Interaction of nitrogen and cultivar was significant on ear length, lodging percentage and seed yield. On the basis of the results obtained, the fertilizer treatment 100 kg N ha-1 and Nosrat cultivar might be suitable for barley productive under the condition similar to the present study.
