Study on yield comparison of barley promising lines in temperate region of Lorestan provience, Iran

ABSTRACT: It has been broadly accepted that barley performs better than wheat, particularly under severe stress conditions of the Iran. However, this assumption is not based on rigorous evidence. This study was planned to examine effect of location and lines on yield and other favorable characteristics of eight barley lines at the Boroujerd and Dorud agricultural Reaserch station farms. The experimental design was a randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Treatments including five promising barley lines ( MB82-14, MB80-16, MB83-12, MB83-4 and MB83-3) and Two cultivars (Nosrat and Valfajr) as control in tow location. Results showed that barley yield in Boroujerd station was highest for MB83-3 line and lowest for MB83-12 line and the difference was significant. Also, barley yield in Dorud station was highest for Nosrat cultivar and lowest for MB83-12 line and the difference was significant. However, combined analysis shows that MB83-3 line had the highest yield while MB83-12 line had the lowest yield. Therefore MB83-3 line was selected to complimentary studies.
