Abstract:With the aim of finding better new chemical preservatives, the present research was done to study the possible effects of geranyldiphosphate (GDP), as a precursor of terpenoids, and its analog on postharvest life of gerbera cut flowers. GDP and its analog were applied in five different concentrations (0, 25, 50, 100 and 200 mgL-1). Gerbera cut flowers were treated in nine different treatment groups including control (C), G25, G50, G100, G200, A25, A50, A100 and A200. The application of GDP/its analog resulted in alleviated degradation rates of Anthocyanin, increased carbohydrate contents and water contents of petal tissues as well as declined decreasing rates of flower diameterwith the best found results in A100, A200, G100 and A50 treatment groups, respectively.According to the obtained results from the present research, it seems that the application of GDP/its analog as a preservative in vase solution could lead to physiological changes caused alleviated senescence of cut flowers and promoted longevity of cut flowers.
