Synthesis and characterization of two new macroheterocycles prepared from the reaction of 2,6-bis (chloromethyl) pyridine and thiodiglycol

Two pyridine containing macroheterocycles have been synthesized from the reaction of 2,6-bis (chloromethyl) pyridine and thiodiglycol (TDG) in THF using NaH as base. Column chromatography was applied to the reaction mixture and two different macroheterocycles obtained were characterized by 1H and 13C-NMR as well as MS spectroscopy. The results confirm that [1+1] and [2+2] macroheterocycles are formed during cyclization reaction.
