Abstract :
The experiment was conducted in Taggar female kid’s goats to evaluate the effect of season of birth on some reproductive and productive traits. Thirty (30) female kids of Taggar goats were used in this experiment. Animals were allocated to two groups according to season of birth (rainy season or dry season). The results indicated that rainy season kidders secured higher birth weight 2.01±0.06 kg compared with dry season kidders 1.95±0.06 kg. Body weight at weaning was not affected by season of birth for the female born in rainy or dry season. Rainy season kidders showed highest pubertal body weight 13.16±0.42kg and shorter days to first estrus 160.00±18.53 day compared with female born during dry season which they exerted lower pubertal body weight 11.25±0.50 kg and took long days to exhibit estrous signs as 214.00±16.77day. These results indicated that rainy season provide a quantity of feed that fillfull requirement for animal growth. Body weight at first kidding was highest 21.03±0.42kg for female kids born during rainy season and kidded at early age 376.44±17.86day, compared with kids born during dry season which they showed lower body weight 19.90±0.45kg and took long time to parturition 416.40±16.94day. High preweaning mortality rates exerted during dry season compared with rainy season, but high post weaning mortality rate increase during rainy season compared with death during dry season. It may be concluded that reproductive and productive performance of Taggar female kids was better during rainy season. There is tendency for an increase of reproductive performance of Taggar female kid.
