Abstract :
Two field trials conducted in Gaziantep (O?uzeli) between the years 2006 to 2010, by five red lentil cultivars,
sowed in six different time and species of broomrape (Orobanche aegyptiaca Pers. and Fors O. crenata) contamination,
yield and yield components were investigated. Trials were set up according to “split-plot randomized experimental
design” with four replications in the growing seasons of 2006-2007 (first trial) and 2009-2010 (Second trial) and sowing
time in the main plots, lentil varieties sub-plots were established. In the first experiment, the highest number of branches
and dry weight of broomrape in Seyran-96 cultivars planted plots, in the second experiment, the Yerli K?rm?z?, Ca??l
and Seyran varieties plots were determined. The effect of different sowing time on broomrape number of branches and
dry weight of Orobanche in terms of the highest values in both experiment have been identified in early (20 October)
sowing. The influence of sowing date and grain yield cultivars of lentils in the first experiment, the highest grain yield
(835 kg ha-1) in F?rat-87 cultivar and 4th sowing time (November 30) from (861 kg ha-1); the second experiment, the
highest yield (1064 kg ha-1) Alt?ntoprak variety and sowing time (November 15) from the (1013 kg ha-1) were obtained.
Relationship of the sowing time x variety; the highest grain yield (1435 kg ha-1) from 15 November Alt?ntoprak variety
and the lowest grain yield from I. sowing date Yerli K?rm?z? cultivar (511 kg ha-1) were obtained. In the early sowing
period with too much orobanche contamination lead to decrease of plant density and this situation caused to increase the
plant height, number of pods per plant and increased the number of branches from the yield components. It is concluded
that early varieties such as Alt?ntoprak planted late would be appropriate for reducing in Red lentil growing problem
and a satisfactory yield for the reduction of orobanche contamination.
