Abstract :
Ever increasing food consumption due to the increased population is a compelling evidence to increase agriculture productions. Moreover, agriculture production must lead to the healthy product by taking advantage of better pest management systems. In addition, food security and enhanced efficiency necessitate such fact. In view of the pest management, improvement of knowledge, keen perception, skill, and in general, farmers` behavior modifications could be effective. The purpose of present study is to review some of the factors which affect the soy growersʹ pest control management (PCM) skills in the region. The style of this research was descriptive-correlation. To collect necessary data, questionnaires were used. Our sample population consisted of 200 people among soy growers. Credibility of the research was judged by the experts and plant protection specialists. To examine the reliability of the questionnaires, wherein the level of the farmersʹ knowledge was measured, Cronbach ? coefficient was used. The coefficient measured to be 97%. Statistically, the descriptive and inferential analysis was used for data analysis. The results showed that there was 99% significant correlation between dependent management skills and independent factors. Independent factors included, being a model farmer, membership in production cooperation, sensitivity to pest based on the plant type, participation in biologic applications, level of the pest in post biological application, pesticides price increase, utilization of methods offered in pest management and farmersʹ knowledge and technical information on agricultural pests, participation in training sessions, and the amount of land under cultivation. Multi-factorial regression test showed that the soy growersʹ perception of the use of biological methods, familiarity with the biological methods, frequency of referrals to the agriculture service centers, average land size under cultivation in the last 5 years, farming experience explained 53% of the changes of the soy growersʹ Pest Control Management (PCM) skill.
