Searching for More General Weight Conjectures, Using the Symmetric Group as an Example

Let k be a field of characteristic p, and let Sn be the symmetric group of degree n. Assume that n < 3p. Let A be the centralizer in kSn of kSn − 1. We find all simple A-modules, and relate the number of non-projective simple A-modules to p-local information.
