Abstract :
We present an algorithm for determining the Fitting subgroup of a polycyclic-by-finite group. As applications we describe methods for calculating the centre and the FC-centre and for exhibiting the nilpotent-by-abelian-by-finite structure of a polycyclic-by-finite group.
