Abstract :
A novel access to a 2-norbornyl cation under mild, non acidic conditions is found in the addition of photochemically generated 4dimethylaminophenyl cation to 2-norbornene. Deprotonation to nortricyclene or nucleophile addition ensue depending on the solvent characteristics.
