Indoor radon levels in kindergartens and play-schools from the province of Parma

One hundred and eight measurements of indoor radon concentrations were performed in 49 kindergartens and play-schools located in 26 towns of the Italian province of Parma. The method used was that involving Solid-State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTDs), which were hung in the selected rooms from mid-October of 1994 to mid-April of 1995. The indoor radon levels resulted to be generally low, ranging from 10–108 Bq m-3, with an average activity concentration of 30±19 (SD) Bq m-3. The mean annual radon effective dose equivalent was assessed to be 0•5 mSv.
