Abstract :
Thermoluminescence (TL) from a ceramic alumina crucible and two glass samples was investigated to evaluate the radiation dosimetry in the JCO accident site using a highly sensitive TL-measuring apparatus. For thermoluminescence color images (TLCIs), all ceramic disks gave homogeneous red-TL (RTL) distributions, whereas glass disks showed yellowish and blue colorations in the low- and high-temperature regions, respectively. The glow-curve appearance both of RTL and of visible light in the low-temperature range from ceramics and quartz glass was confirmed to derive from the recent artificial radiation. Subsequently, grains from the alumina crucible were verified to be useful for evaluation of exposure doses when the RTL at high temperatures was employed in comparison with the glass samples. Finally, the radiation dose at about 50 m distance from the accident site was estimated to be about 63 mGy.
