Abstract :
The tsunami catastrophe that struck countries bordering the Indian Ocean in 2004 has increased the perception of the high value and function of the mangrove ecosystem, to prevent not only wave insurgences on coastline but also in protecting marine life and the surrounding habitat (Chan & Baba 2009). In Sabah, the Sabah Forestry Department (SFD) has initiated restoration activities with financial support from the Federal Government. A total of RM5 million has been allocated for Sabah to carry out mangrove restoration programme via a special fund from the Natural Resources & Environment Ministry of the Federal Government. As of the end of 2009, about RM4.15 million has been spent for mangrove restoration throughout Sabah.(copy from article)
