Abstract :
A general design of an optimized prompt gamma neutron activation analysis technique is evaluated. This technique utilizes large volume BGO detector and radioisotopic neutron source. The system incorporates two isotopic Pu-Be neutron sources of 5 x 106 n/s strength for each within a shielding-reflector-moderator assembly. The system detection efficiency and the non-linearity calibration were performed using radioisotopic gamma-sources. Prompt gamma rays produced by neutron capture reactions in the elements such as B and Cd were detected. The peaks of interest for different measured gamma-ray spectra were analyzed to generate integrated yield as a function of element concentration. The results of this study present the feasibility and reliability of the constructing technique for non-destructive analysis of bulk samples.
