Tissue Repair: A Critical Determinant in CCl4 Hepatotoxicity

A single antimitotic dose of colchicine administered 24 hr after a single ip dose of CCl4 profoundly enhanced lethality in the adult Sprague-Dawley male rat from <10% to over ≥70% within the next 24 hr. These findings suggest that disruption of normal hepatic cellular repair processes is a critical factor affecting the outcome of CCl4 intoxication.
