Case management: A rich history of coordinating care to control costs

Although case management is perceived by many to be a relatively new concept, it has a rich history dating back to 1863 in the United States. Nursing was a forerunner in the development and implementation of case management systems, which have been used for more than a hundred years to coordinate fragmented services and control costs.
