Abstract :
The effects of a DCP-adapted anaerobic consortium on 2,4,6-TCP and PCP dechlorination in selected soils were studied. It was found that 2,4,6-TCP and PCP partition coefficient (Kp) values were lower for Guishan sandy loam than for Shulin clay loam PCP dechlorination intermediate products were identified as 2,3,4,5-tetrachlorophenol (TeCP), 3,4,5-trichlorophenol (TCP), and 3,5-dichlorophenol (DCP). Employing Monod-with-growth kinetics under various conditions in the laboratory, we found 2,4,6-TCP and PCP dechlorination in soil to be well-fit, with observed half-lives ranging from 6 to 177 days. We also found optimal conditions for 2,4,6-TCP and PCP dechlorination to be 30°C, pH 7.8, and 50% water content (both soil types). Dechlorination occurred more rapidly in Guishan sandy loam than in Shulin clay loam, and 2,4,6-TCP dechlorination was faster than that observed for PCP.
