Abstract :
The regular observation of gravitational radiation by ground- and space-based laser-interferometric detectors will usher in a new form of astronomy and will provide new and interesting tests of general relativity. After reviewing the current status of experimental relativity, we show how measurement of the phase evolution of waves from binary inspiral can place interesting bounds on scalar-tensor gravitational theories, and on the mass of the graviton. Specific bounds are calculated for ground-based detectors, for LISA and for hypothetical future space interferometers.
