BIOLOGICAL DEGRADATION OF LIGNIN

The catobolism of lignin as a part of the general metabolism of aromatic compounds in microorganisms is considered. The oxidative depolymerisation of lignin is mainly performed by the Hymenomycetales. The role of bacteria in the break-down of lignin is rather limited.
