A short history of investigations of microbial biodeterioration in Poland, 1875–2002

A brief historical account of 130 years of investigations of microbiological biodeterioration in Poland is presented in three historical periods, i.e. 1875–1918, 1918–1945 and 1946–2002. The principal mycologists and microbiologists involved in these investigations are given, and for the period after the Second World War studies carried out in a number of institutions, and educational achievements in microbial biodeterioration at some higher institutes, are recorded. The reintroduction of symposia on microbial biodeterioration at the Technical University in Lódz since 2000 is noted.
