Cleaner technologies in the Fourth Framework Programme of the EU

The role of cleaner technologies in the Fourth Framework Programme of the EU is of major importance for research and technological development. This article presents an analysis of projects submitted in the field of cleaner technologies for the industrial sector. The analysis encompasses the programmes ‘Environment and Climate’ and ‘Industrial and Materials Technologies’. Both the objectives and contents of the projects concerning source-level prevention are investigated in detail; the results of both programmes are compared with each other as well as assessed. In addition, recommendations are made concerning the composition of future programmes.
