Separation Among Distributions Related by Linear Regression

The existence of a regression relation between a response and a predictor variable does not necessarily indicate that the distributions of the response are very different at specified distances between levels of the predictor, a condition we call being well separated. We define and develop estimation and testing procedures for such a separation. Our test for separation generalizes the usual one-sided t test for a regression relation between the response and the predictor.
