Dynamic vs. apparent Redfield ratio in the oceans: A case for 3D-models

A three-dimensional model of global biogechemical cycles (HAMOCC3) is used to discuss potential explanations for apparent observed deviations from a basin-wide Redfield ratio. Two examples are given in which model information can be taken to close the gaps of incomplete measurements or data analyses. A third example illustrates how the apparent covariation between phosphate and alkalinity is created by the circulation.
