Reflections on host-switching as a factor in the evolution of associated copepods

A brief analysis of host-switching is presented, along with considerations regarding the significance of these events in the evolutionary history of associated copepods. Some hypotheses are advanced as to the origin and mechanism of changes in host allegiance and their possible influence on questions of host specificity and geographic distribution in localized areas.
