Establishment of crop production database for natural regions and its role in cropping

The proportion of cultivated land of Hungaryʹs natural regions is reasonably high and their dominant agricultural activity is crop production. It is evident by now that production and its place cannot be divided. Our research aims to study the interactions between cropping and landscape and to determine adaptable cropping systems for given natural regions. We are to develop a crop production database based on natural regions. This has two main structural parts: a G.I.S., one includes agro-ecological and topographical digital geographical databases whose scale is 1:100,000. The other one includes meteorological pieces of information of 117 stations and a crop production database. The latter oneʹs three main sources are the following: Results of large scale nationwide variety testing, small-plot testing and production data and agro-technological records of farms. By means of the database in cases of some of the crops, we were able to regionally separate the agro-climatic differences.
