Some Counterexamples to Separation of Variables

Among the other things, a linear inhomogenous algebraic partial differential equation with integer coefficients is written down that has no differentially algebraic solutions. Such an equation has no solution that can be generated by a "general-purpose analog computer" (i.e., differential analyzer).
