Abstract :
Absolute rate coefficients for the reactions of OH radical (kOH) with 3-fluoropropene, 3-chloropropene, 3-bromopropene, and 3-iodopropene were determined as a function of the total pressure (pT =100–600 Torr) and the temperature (228–388 K) using the pulsed laser photolysis/laser-induced fluorescence technique. No significant pressure dependence of room temperature rate coefficients was observed in the pressure interval studied. The obtained Arrhenius expressions of kOH (in cm3 molecule−1 s−1) are (6.3±2.0)×10−12 exp[(285±94)/T], (3.5±1.4)×10−12 exp[(474±110)/T] and (3.6±1.5)×10−12 exp[(455±116)/T] for 3-fluoropropene, 3-chloropropene, and 3-bromopropene, respectively. Complications in the determination of the rate coefficient for the OH+3-iodopropene reaction did not allow us to propose an Arrhenius expression for that reaction. These rate coefficients and the estimated atmospheric chemical lifetimes with OH were compared with reported data for other atmospheric oxidants (NO3, O3, and Cl atoms).
