Towards committed and collaborative camelid research

Three bibliographies on the Camelidae are analysed in respect of items produced per decade, subject matter and individual author and country research publications. There has been exponential growth in the number of scientific articles, subject areas demanding little effort and few animals have been better researched than others, most authors are associated with only one research article, most articles are published in local journals or non-conventional sources, and most interest in camelid research is not in countries with the largest numbers of animals. The role of donor agencies in camelid research is reviewed and suggestions made for future research support.
