Abstract :
A framework for modelling removal in deep-bed filtration is presented. This framework uses a phenomenological model as its basis, with well-defined parameters. The parameters were chosen to provide the best fit to one set of experimental data and theoretical models used to predict how the parameters change with operating conditions. The model predicts behaviour of the complete filter run, and takes account of variations in flow rate, temperature, grain size and particle size distribution. The model results were found to be reasonably consistent with experimental observations. The theoretical models used in this paper are relatively simple, but the framework is designed so that more sophisticated models can be used within the framework.
