The fixture planning of modular fixtures for measurement

A Computer Aided Fixturing System (CAFS) was used in this paper to study the planning of modular fixtures for measurement using a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). This paper proposes fixturing planning of a complicated small supporting face and a large general supporting face. Group Technology (GT) was used to establish the coding database of the modular fixture element for use in the system. Several algorithms are developed to locate the appropriate fixture elements and their positions.
