Abstract :
Isosteric replacement of the indole nucleus in a series of pyrido[2,3-b]indoles e.g.1 and 2 has provided potent GABAA modulators with potential anxiolytic activity. Both benzothiophene and cycloalkyl fused heterocyclic ring systems are acceptable moieties.
