Synthesis and investigation of a galactopyranosyl-cholesteryloxy substituted porphyrin

The synthesis of a new carbohydrate cholesterol substituted porphyrin is described. Due to its amphiphilic character this compound is easily built into model membranes. Furthermore, the vesicle forming properties of compound 4 were investigated by light scattering experiments and electron microscopy.
