Homoisofagomines: Chemical-enzymatic synthesis and evaluation as α- and β-glucosidase inhibitors

Methyl- and hydroxymethyl derivatives of the highly potent glycosidase inhibitor isofagomine are accessible via aldolase-catalyzed C---C bond formation and competitively inhibit β-glucosidase at low micromolar concentrations.
